What causes Impetigo?
Impetigo is caused by a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus aureus. This is commonly caught by children with contact with another infected person or if they have a fresh scratch or wound that could get infected. Impetigo can also be spread by sharing towels, clothing or bedding with an infected person. It can also be spread to different parts of our body through hands or fingernails if the area is scratched or picked before it has fully healed.
