What is Omeprazole?
Omeprazole is a generic medication for the treatment of symptoms such as acid reflux, heartburn and indigestion. It belongs to a group of drugs called Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI).
It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach which reduces the likelihood of experiencing heartburn and acid reflux.

Omeprazole should be taken once a day.
It is best taken before the first food or drink of the day

Omeprazole may hide the symptoms of other diseases.
Talk to your doctor if you experience any of the following before or during taking omeprazole.
weight loss or difficulty swallowing
you get stomach pain or indigestion
you begin to vomit food or blood
you pass black stools (blood-stained faeces)
you experience severe or persistent diarrhoea,
you have severe liver problems
you have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine that reduces stomach acid
you get a rash on your skin, especially in areas exposed to the sun
Taking a proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole, especially over a period of more than one year, may slightly increase your risk of fracture in the hip, wrist or spine.

Disturbed sleep.
Dizziness, tingling feelings such as “pins and needles”, feeling sleepy.
Vertigo

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole or voriconazole
- Digoxin
- Diazepam
- Phenytoin
- Medicines that are used to thin your blood, such as warfarin or other vitamin K blockers.
- Rifampicin
- Atazanavir
- Tacrolimus
- Methotrexate
- St John’s wort
- Cilostazol
- Saquinavir
- Clopidogrel
- Erltinib
- Clarithromycin
Each capsule contains either 10mg or 20mg of omeprazole.
The other ingredients are sugar spheres (consisting of corn starch and sucrose), sodium lauryl sulfate, disodium phosphate, mannitol, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol 6000, talc, polysorbate 80, titanium dioxide, Eudragit L30-D55 (poly(methacrylic acid, ethyl acrylate)). Capsules consist of gelatin and contain the colours quinoline yellow (E104) and titanium dioxide (E171).
